Abdul Hamid was a soldier of the Indian Army. In the war of 1965 he destroyed Pakistani tanks at the Battle of Asal Uttar with a gun on a jeep. He was killed in the battle. He got the Param Vir Chakra after his death.
Act of valour
On 10 September 1965, Pakistani tanks attacked the position of the 4th Battalion of the Grenadiers in the Khem Karan sector of Punjab. Abdul Hamid was the commander of a recoilless gun on a jeep. He moved the jeep to a position at the side of the tanks, under heavy fire. He destroyed the leading tank, and then more tanks. An enemy tank shell hit him while he fired at another tank.
